In Abruzzo, vines are cultivated on chalky loamy soils. The viticulture near to the coast enjoys a warm to dry climate while the vineyards in the foothills prosper in a little chiller climate. The highest vineyards lie about 600 meters above the sea level. In Abruzzo, there are three main grape varieties
cultivated; Montepulicano, Sangiovese and Trebbiano. The best known wines of the region are Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.
